The ideal candidate is a writer, editor, storyteller, and media relations specialist that can help craft stories and pitches to inspire earned coverage on all platforms. The right candidate for this position is fluent in the fundamentals of public relations, but also understands how the media landscape is evolving and changing, and how PR must adapt to those changes. She/he is a consumer of the news and a media junkie who can quickly write a byline, craft a targeted pitch, or pen an Op-Ed or LTE. They know how to conduct media monitoring, find media trends and to formulate media lists that will help clients find the right reporter for their story at the right time. They think of the media as an audience and a channel. She/he thinks quickly on their feet and can manage short-term requests and long-term projects. The ideal candidate will follow instructions from supervisors but also take initiative regarding client work.

This is a virtual position as we're more concerned about finding the best talent where ever they might be located. You should be available as needed to meet with clients and attend meetings/events primarily in the NYC, LA and Boston area.

Requirements:

-3 Years of prior PR experience in an agency setting working with technology clients

-MUST have existing top-tier media relationships and network of journalists in within the tech/health tech/fintech, AI/VR and media/marketing sectors.

-Solid track record of execution

-Solid understanding of basic principles of PR and media relations

-Display understanding of the role of media in shaping perceptions

-Draft PR-related content and coordinating submissions in support of a variety of PR programs including editorial opportunities, media pitches, speaking ops, contributed articles, editorial and social media comments, etc.

-Craft media lists and conduct research on reporters using tools like Meltwater, Leadership Directory, etc...

-Compile media outreach and media coverage updates for clients

-Monitor media trends and social conversations for reports to clients and to inspire story ideas

-Conduct issue and media analysis to advise client activities and strategies

-Develop, foster, and preserve strategic relationships with journalists, press and various media outlets (blogs, tech & business press, online websites, print, events, and broadcast)

-Report and write stories and associated digital content for owned channels

-Assist in writing press materials (pitch letter, media advisories, factsheets, etc.)

-Support research projects and any other requests from senior staff

-Generate weekly reports

-Display understanding of the role of media in shaping perceptions

-Draft PR-related content and coordinating submissions in support of a variety of PR programs including editorial opportunities, media pitches, speaking ops, contributed articles, editorial and social media comments, etc.

-Seek a consumer-centric view in all strategic thinking

-Provide point-of-view on various media in the marketplace

-Create media recommendations and alternatives

-Participate in strategic planning and brainstorming sessions

-Select media vehicles and determine schedule/timing

-Investigate and give recommendations on creative, innovative approaches to strategically reach the target consumer and successfully get media coverage

-Analyze competitive activity in the marketplace

-Create compelling award submissions

-Lead outreach efforts with social media creators/influencers and representatives to forge new talent relationships

-Conduct research and offer recommendations on matching influencer talent to campaign opportunities

Day-to-day

-Translate client business needs into communications actions with solution-oriented focus

-Ability to provide counsel and strategy for branding, reputation management, and crisis communications; embraces and understands the principles of global media relations.

-Stays abreast of emerging technology and recognizes opportunities to continuously develop themselves professionally

-Demonstrates commitment to industry, agency, and clients by mastering industry knowledge and understanding clients' businesses.

-Possess the capability to support the creation, editing, and approval of client press materials, messaging and strategic plans, as well as and deal with challenging, technical enquiries from clients, new business, and external organizations

-Execute media plan

-Follow-up with journalist, reporters, producers, columnists etc

-Keep pulse on all industry and business awards, deadlines and clients that qualify

-Measure media performance to determine the extent to which the original objectives and strategies are on target to be met, and provide alternative direction to stay on course and meet objectives

-Ensure a good working relationship with account and client teams to facilitate flawless execution of plans

-Study demographic data and consumer profiles to identify desired target audiences

-Handle any client requests- i.e. plan changes, budget changes, provide marketplace information

-Meet with media sales reps and industry representatives on a regular basis to pursue ideas that are strategically aligned with the client's business

-Strong strategic-thinking skills, and the ability to handle and tactfully manage stressful situations

-Excellent knowledge of the media landscape

-Ability to communicate clearly and transfer complex information in a concise and clear form

-Experience representing clients in financial technology, health tech, blockchain and IoT

-Always five steps ahead, ability to anticipate issues and address them in a proactive manner

-Ability to close new business; walk prospective clients through first point of contact to signing the contract

The account executive/PR strategist provides the client with the most effective media plan recommendation to insure that the client's goals are met. He/she must the day-to-day steward on assigned brands. The Strategist is required to develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of their clients' business and ensure that all client media requirements are executed in a timely and accurate manner.
